More than a photo negative
The classic negative subtracts every red, green, and blue value from its maximum, and that is this tool’s first mode. The other three are where it gets interesting: luminance mode flips light and dark while preserving each pixel’s hue and saturation, channel mode inverts red, green, or blue independently for complementary color shifts, and threshold mode inverts only the tones above or below a brightness cutoff, the digital form of solarization.
The amount slider blends the inversion against the original, so a negative can be taken partway for a ghosted, low-contrast look. Everything runs per frame on video as well as images. Is the color inverter free?

Can I invert a video?
Yes. The inversion is per-pixel and applies identically to every frame; drop in an MP4, WebM, or MOV and export the result as an MP4. Most color inverters online stop at images.
How do I turn a scanned film negative into a positive?
Use the RGB mode at full amount: it performs the same value flip that turns a negative positive. Color negative film also carries an orange mask, so expect to correct the color balance afterward for a neutral result.

Invert colors
Inverting colors flips every value to its opposite: white becomes black, red becomes cyan, blue becomes yellow, exactly like a photographic negative. But full inversion is only the beginning. Inverting brightness while keeping hues, flipping a single channel, or inverting only above a threshold each produce a different look, from x-ray to solarized print.
Gradient map
A gradient map recolors an image by its brightness: every pixel is replaced with the color at the matching position along a gradient you design, darkest tones taking the gradient’s start and brightest taking its end. It is the fastest route to duotones, cinematic two-tone grades, and poster-style color reduction, because you are painting with the image’s own tonal structure.
Threshold effect
The threshold effect reduces an image to exactly two colors with a single hard cutoff: every pixel brighter than the chosen level takes one color, every pixel darker takes the other. Nothing blends and nothing fades, which is the point. It is the look of stencils, photocopies, and lith prints, the bluntest and most graphic move in image editing.
